Report on : Where will the garbage Go?

Mangaluru: St Aloysius Campus, Light House has claimed its award for environment rights, yet a lot of changes is yet to take place. The management is trying their best to make an eco friendly campus, but there has been a drastic change since the years of its foundation.
When it comes to waste, people hardly care where it goes and how it is being dumped. People dump all kinds of waste into dustbins around the place oblivious to the hazard caused due to lack of waste management. When plastic is burnt, the polluted air causes tremendous problems for resident and students in the area.

“College should have a positive ambience and playground and open space should be kept neat and tidy,” says Lorenzo Majeo, a student.

Shinoj Thomas a post-graaduation student said, “there are lots of dustbins around the college premises but I don’t know where those are being emptied.” Pointing at the waste pit, he adds “this is not eco friendly. The plastic is not degradable nor the burning of plastic would help.” He suggests the college should take more precaution when it comes to waste management.

The college have also provided with bins around with according to the waste management such as the dry, wet waste. But the effectiveness of these bins are yet a big question for concern its all in hands of the students to make the proper use of the bins as we all know the amount of waste that is being generated not just in campus but many of the places.
Its sad that today the dumping yards are now the lakes and the forest that used to dump the huge amount of the waste the effects are the threat to the nature. Electronic waste is also the biggest harazaed to the nature.

What steps can be taken to manage waste ?
Providing bins across the campus

To create awareness with regard to the importance
Create awareness campaigns
Weekly encourage students to collect e waste
Activities to motivate to manage waste and recycle
Though these are very few aspects to protect the nature waste management is the simplest way to create awareness and make a difference.

POEM ON : THE FALLING VOICE OF THE BIRDS

From fallen leaves; On the lively trees, The silent dreams, Before the raising sun, the chirping bird; Made  my pleasant days On the fallen trees now, The fallen voice of, esteemed beauty, Of his golden voice, Is now washed away, He is broken for all the happenings; He can barely fly to make me happy, No one looks up to this bird anymore. He is just object because we all have better works, The people are too busy, And controlled by money, To care about the bird, They could not look down, To the broken, sad bird, We have no time to make him feel the warmth nor to sooth him, Things  are vanishing away, Without the mesmerising voice, And while they are now happy, we can’t  and not ignore, The bird there to die, On the lively trees.

Media the Voice for environment

In the name of development we have encroached the forest, lakes and waterways and what not?  When too much of human activities are conducted against nature it goes in its course be that Kashmir flood, incident in Kedarnath region 2013 or tsunami, cyclones and all types of natural calamities throughout the world. No media is discussing the root cause of the problems which can bring change in the society by the media. Living in harmony with the nature we all know about its importance, but when it comes to practice we tend to forget about it. Everyone wants development, but at what cost? Who would listen to the victims? few oppose industrialisation that has equilibrium  with the nature. How many dams, hydroelectric power plants can be laid along the river 10-60? More importantly there is no clear cut policy on dams, and no thoughts as how dams should be built, where or how? Today, society’s interaction with the nature is extensive that environment question has assumed a...
